Religious Education

PDO opens its door to all students regardless of religions. Our academic programs are completely secular.

Due to its roots as a monastic school, PDO also offers optional classes on Buddhism every Sunday, called Dhamma School.  Dhamma School teaches basic understanding of Buddhism as a way to live peacefully and to avoid bad behaviors. In addition, our Principal, Ven Nayaka teaches Pali Language short course for interested students under Phaung Daw Oo International University.

PDO is also home to several hundred young Buddhist novice monks and nuns, as it is common in Myanmar children and teenagers to spend time in the novitiate. These students can freely learn in any academic programs offered by PDO. Therefore, PDO students who later choose to enter religious life do so with the strong secular academic training.

Dhamma School at PDO aims to teach students to understand and practice the teachings of Buddha by using student-centered teaching methods. Our program uses textbooks published by the Dhamma School Foundation.

Dhamma School runs for 40 Sundays, 8-11 a.m. during the school year.

For the 2019-2020 school year, we have 400 students from kindergarten to Grade 9.

Dhamma School is headed by:

Ven Uttamasara
